Projects

These are my projects. These are things that I have spent hours upon hours on working on either research papers, websites, or blogs. I have gained so much experience in both a professional and scholarly setting, and have met so many mentors and advisors throughout my high school journey that have supported and assisted me in chasing my aspirations to enact change. I am immensely grateful to have had the opportunity to contribute to society as a whole, even at this age.

I truly hope that my contributions will not go unnoticed, and I hope to draw from these experiences in the future in order to further my goals.

Recent obsession with code and a desire to help

I had gotten Python Certified recently, and fallen in love with the concept of coding. Writing in a language that commands the computer to do anything that you tell it to just has a beauty to it. I wanted to create an ambitious project where I would create a website/blog where users could calculate their risk of either Woman or Type 1 Diabetes using various factors such as age, gender, and weight. Working with a professional computer engineer opened my eyes to new prospects and the growing future of  our technology. I hope that this website that I have created will help many to be able to share their stories and experiences to others all while calculating their own or their loved ones' risks.

A passion turned into an idea and an idea into a project.

In my high school years, I was a huge gym-rat. I'd chase anything related to health or nutrition in hopes of learning more about what I put into my own body and what to eat to produce maximum growth in the gym. Coupled with my Type 1 Diabetes, I aspired to create a blog where people could learn what exactly they put into their bodies, the benefits of said fuel, and how to make it. Each recipe was made from scratch and tested in real life, and the benefits were scientifically researched and compiled into one easily digestible paragraph.

Research in hopes of forwarding Diabetes/Obesity management

As a child who was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes at the young age of four years old, I wanted to contribute to the growing field of Diabetes management research. I decided to research semaglutide, a recently released drug and its possible benefits to target both those who suffer with Diabetes and Obesity, two diseases that often go hand in hand. This paper was thoroughly edited and drew from many scholarly sources to determine a new outlook on the future of  Diabetes and Obesity management.

An Eye-Opening Trip

This summer, I had the chance to visit Guatemala on a medical research and interning trip. From new cultures such as clothing, food, and dialect to learning about new medical techniques and research methods, this trip gave me so much insight into third world countries, how conditions are, and the importance of research. We collected Carbon Monoxide levels in the environment through small handheld machines and compiled the data into a research paper. I also experienced real time dentistry, anesthesiologists, general practitioners, and pharmacists at work at out makeshift clinic for the locals who couldn't afford proper treatment.

My First Research Experience

The summer of 2022, I had the chance to attend UCSB's SRA (Summer Research Academies), a highly prestigious summer research program. It was my first time being away from my parents, and it lasted a month! Not only was it my first time leaving my parents, but it was also my first time writing a research paper. I took a course on humanities, something that I had never had any skill; at, but found that I had a special knack for finding feasible data for our paper. From writing this paper as a draft with my group-mates to digging deep in the internet's archives to find old archival data, my experience here was nothing short of priceless.

Inspired By a Real Person

I had the opportunity to submit my short story to Scholastic's writing competition, and I ended up receiving the Gold Key award from them for my inspirational and heart wrenching story. I wrote about a character's experience with an autistic classmate in his elementary school years, and the effect that it had on him in the future. This story was inspired by a real person that I knew. I channeled my regrets into the story, mourning the fact that I never had the courage to put a stop to all of his torment and that I was just a spectator in the ordeal. I still wonder to this day how he is doing and if he has made any good reliable friends.
